How Many Laser hair removal Treatments Will I Need?

It's common, natural, and totally advisable for you to have and ask questions about laser hair removal treatment procedures.  Because each lasering session is priced individually, one of the primary concerns many patients have is cost.  How much time and money will you have to invest in laser hair removal in order for it to be effective?  The truth is that the answer to that question varies from one patient to the next.  While the only way to get an answer that is set in stone is to have a consultation with a laser hair removal clinic, we can give you a basic idea of what to expect in different scenarios.

If you've got a small patch of thin, dark hair on fair skin then you're coming to the procedure with a best-case scenario.  These are the quickest and easiest cases to treat.  While it is extremely rare for one session to be sufficient for any hair removal job, in all likelihood you could see satisfying results after only two or three sessions.  These sessions are typically scheduled at monthly intervals and for a small area will probably take only a few minutes each.  In other words, the time and monetary investment necessary to treat a small area is easily justified by most patients.

If you're looking at a larger patch of hair, have fairer hair, and/or have darker skin then treatment could take longer.  Because of how the lasers work, it is easiest to eradicate dark hair and especially to target and kill the melanin of the hair follicle when it contrasts sharply with the skin pigments.  It takes special lasers for these special conditions, so choose your clinic wisely.  Also, because you are covering a larger and/or tougher area of hair you can expect to need more sessions.  For a medium-sized job, patients could need as few as three sessions or as many as six.

Finally, if you want to have hair removed from an entire section of your body (like your back, chest, or legs) and/or if you have dark skin AND dark hair (hence no contrast) then you should know that these types of laser hair removal treatments can require more work.  It is not unheard of for patients with difficult cases to undergo as many as eight or more consecutive monthly treatments.  For larger areas, you may also need to schedule touch-up sessions every six months to be sure that all the hair is permanently removed.

In the past, laser hair removal treatments were somewhat limited.  The good news for any patient considering these procedures is that while some scenarios may take more time, ultimately just about anything is now possible.
